IZSLER is a Public Institute offering services for animal health and food safety [link], in particular diagnosis and research on transmissible and diffusive animal diseases and zoonoses.

IZSLER has been recognized as the OIE Collaborating Centre for Veterinary Biologicals Biobank since 2014, thanks to the long and well-established experience on biobanking, previously as National Reference Centre for Cell Cultures (since 1991), subsequently as OIE Collaborating Centre for Cell Cultures, and finally as part of the Italian Network of Veterinary Biobanks[1]. IZSLER is currently maintaining and managing the largest veterinary biobank facility in Italy for the storage of biological resources according to biobanking “best practices” and certified ISO 9001:2015.

The activities carried out by the staff (Dr. Maria Beatrice Boniotti, Dr. Riccardo Villa, some technicians and collaborators) include: harmonize quality biobanking operating procedures, according to the OIE standard requirements and to the international guidelines and improve the cooperation in sharing biological resources, including reference materials and reagents.
