IZSLER is a Public Institute offering services for animal health and food safety [link] [video], in particular diagnosis and research on transmissible and diffusive animal diseases and zoonoses.

IZSLER has a long tradition of research on lagomorphs, and it has acted as the National Reference Centre for viral diseases of lagomorphs since 2002 and as the WOAH Reference Laboratory for Myxomatosis since 2012.

The activities carried out by the staff (Dr. Moira Bazzucchi, Dr. Antonio Lavazza, Dr. Vittoria Di Giovanni, Dr. Elisa Rossini, some technicians and collaborators) include the development of diagnostic methods, production and distribution of reagents, research projects, education and training, consulting and supporting public and private stakeholders.
The definition of prevention and control strategies and surveillance programs is also performed with the support of the Epidemiological Unit Servizio Epidemiologico della Lombardia.
